Tyumen Phytosanitary Testing Laboratory

Tyumen Phytosanitary Testing Laboratory includes:

Department of plant quarantine, grain quality and its products

The main activities of the department:

- laboratory studies of samples (samples) of regulated products in order to establish their quarantine phytosanitary condition;

- determination of sowing and varietal indicators of seeds and planting material.

- confirmation of the quality of grain and products of its processing.

- agrochemical indicators and soil safety indicators.

The main expertise in the field of plant quarantine:

- entomological examination of samples of seed and planting material, food and technical products, stock products, cuts of flowers, forest products, lumber and wooden containers, as well as material selected during phytosanitary monitoring: pheromone, color traps, estimates, entomological sample documents (insects at various stages of development) for the identification of insects by morphological characteristics by microscopy;

- mycological examination (identification and identification of quarantine and non-quarantine species of pathogens of fungal diseases of plants in seeds, tubers, bulbs, seedlings, potted plants, rosettes of roots and other vegetative and underground parts of plants, including their roots, cuttings and branches);

- bacteriological examination of samples of seed and planting material, food cargo, as well as material selected during phytosanitary monitoring: seedlings, cuttings and parts of plants, seedlings of flowers and other agricultural crops, to identify quarantine pests and establish a phytosanitary condition. To identify and identify the causative agents of bacterial diseases in the department, such analysis methods as modifications of the PCR method (PCR in Real Time format) are used.

-virological examination of samples of seed and planting material, food cargo, as well as material selected during phytosanitary monitoring: seedlings, cuttings and parts of plants, seedlings of flowers and other agricultural crops, to identify quarantine pests and establish a phytosanitary condition. To identify and identify the causative agents of viral diseases in the department, the PCR method is used;

- helminthological examination of samples of seed and planting material, food cargo for the identification and identification of quarantine species of cyst-forming potato galls, stem nematodes, forest products, lumber and wooden containers made from conifers - for the identification and identification of pine stem nematodes in domestic and imported products.

- herbological examination of samples of seed material, grain and its processed products, soil, food cargo, as well as material selected during phytosanitary monitoring: estimates, sample documents (vegetative plants, samples of weed plant seeds) for identification by morphological characteristics of plants on different stages of development, seeds and fruits.

Employees of the department successfully participate in interlaboratory comparative tests organized by Russian providers: FSBI VNIIKR, FSBI «Federal Centre of Quality and Safety Assurance for Grain and Grain products», etc., confirming the accuracy and accuracy of the studies

The main expertise in the field of plant quarantine:

- entomological examination of samples of seed and planting material, food and technical products, stock products, cuts of flowers, forest products, lumber and wooden containers, as well as material selected during phytosanitary monitoring: pheromone, color traps, estimates, entomological sample documents (insects at various stages of development) for the identification of insects by morphological characters by microscopy.

Basic research in the field of quality and safety of grain and its processed products:

Organoleptic indicators:

- color, smell, taste;

- color, smell, taste, crunch (in flour and bran);

- color, smell (in oilseeds, grains and legumes for food, feed and technical purposes, as well as oilcakes and meal);

- color, appearance (plant-based feed, compound feed, premixes, protein-vitamin supplements, mineral supplements)

Safety indicators:

- contamination, contamination by pests of grain stocks (in cereals, flour, bran);

- latent infection by pests of grain stocks (in grain and leguminous crops for food, feed and technical purposes, as well as in malt);

-contamination by pests of grain stocks (in oilseeds, grains and legumes for food, feed and technical purposes, as well as cake and meal);

Physical and chemical indicators:

- weed and grain and especially accounted for impurity (in grain and leguminous crops for food, feed and technical purposes);

-oil and weed and especially considered admixture (in oilseeds);

- mass fraction of moisture and dry matter content (in flour, bran and cereal, oilseeds, grains and legumes for food, feed and technical purposes, as well as cake and meal, in animal feed);

-quantity and quality of gluten (in flour and wheat);

- falling-number value (in flour and grain of wheat and rye);

- viability, energy and germination ability (cereals and legumes);

-nature (cereals);

-vitreousness (wheat grain);

- the digestibility of buckwheat and oatmeal (in cereal);

- a metal-magnetic impurity (flour and bran, grain and leguminous crops for food, feed and technical purposes, as well as animal feed and animal feed).

The main studies in the field of determining the varietal and sowing qualities of seeds and planting material:

The main methods used by the Plant Quarantine and Seed Quality Department to determine the sowing quality of seeds are:

- determination of cleanliness and waste;

- determination of germination;

- determination of viability;

- determination of humidity;

- determination of the mass of 1000 seeds;

- determination of infection by diseases;

- determination of stock pest population;

- determination of the quality of seed potato tubers;

- determination of the quality of onion sets and onion-selection;

- determination of seed germination of flower crops;

The staff of the department includes 6 employees with higher education, qualifications. Specialists regularly undergo training in general and individual advanced training courses at the All-Russian Center for Plant Quarantine in Moscow and others.

The department’s work is based on fulfilling the requirements for testing laboratories established by Russian and international standards. When conducting all types of research and measurements in the laboratory, only methods are used in accordance with GOST ISO / IEC 17025-2009, EPPO standards, which allows for high quality testing.

In order to provide a high level of customer service and provide the most reliable information about samples (samples), the quality management system is built on the basis of its continuous improvement, which includes expanding the scope of services provided, introducing new test methods, and constantly improving staff skills in the country's leading laboratories and training centers and abroad, participation in inter-laboratory comparative tests, equipping with new modern equipment and modernization of the laboratory, as well as continuous intra-laboratory monitoring

The Department of Plant Quarantine, Grain Quality and Products of its Processing is fully equipped with modern equipment and materials for conducting all types of quarantine phytosanitary examinations and research of seeds and planting material for varietal and sowing qualities, collections and reference materials, as well as regulatory documents and guidelines . The material and technical base is constantly updated due to the introduction of new diagnostic methods and formats.
